Druid Hills

Druid Hills is one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods, and most of its residents are long-term.

Welcome to Druid Hills

Beautifully landscaped neighborhood near Emory University

Druid Hills is a historic suburban community to Atlanta’s northeast that was originally dreamed up by influential developer Joel Hurt in the late 19th century and designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York’s Central Park and the U.S. Capitol. Completed in the early-20th century with investment from prominent Atlanta families, Druid Hills was designed to be the perfect suburb—a haven of mature tree cover, expansive green space, and beautiful homes on multi-acre lots.

The grand dame houses of Druid Hills’ four historic districts are surrounded by Olmsted Linear Park’s verdant green space. The exquisite turn-of-the-century architecture takes its influence from Georgian, Jacobean, Italian Renaissance, Tudor, and Victorian styles. Druid Hills’ close proximity to Emory University ensures that a number of more affordable condominiums and apartment complexes are located within the community. Many of these complexes offer access to upscale amenities such as private swimming pools and clubhouses.

Things to Do

Olmsted Linear Park is Druid Hills’ signature green space, running for 50 acres along Ponce de Leon Avenue with walking trails moving through six sections of diverse landscaping. Pretty pastoral parks dotted with oak trees lead to Deepdene, a 20-acre tract with steep wooded slopes and meadows surrounding a stream. The beauty of this scenic stretch is celebrated each year with the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, where around 30 talented artists gather to capture scenes inspired by the park and the surrounding city.

Emory University is frequently ranked among the world’s top research universities and its campus is a major landmark. At Druid Hills’ eastern edge, Fernbank Museum of Natural History houses many fascinating permanent and temporary exhibits, including immersive interactive exhibits for children. More than two miles of trails wind through the 65-acre old-growth Fernbank Forest adjacent to the Museum, where trees soar to as much as 16 stories high.

Druid Hills Golf Club is another peaceful refuge nestled within this corner of the city. Druid Hills’ exceptional 18-hole course was originally designed in 1912 by Herbert Barker and updated by Bob Cupp in 2003. Events held at Druid Hills Golf Club include qualifying rounds for the U.S. Women’s Open and the top-ten ranked Dogwood Invitational men’s amateur tournament. Other amenities offered to Druid Hills’ members include farm-to-table dining, a state-of-the-art fitness center, 11 tennis courts, and an aquatics center with three swimming pools.
